Wesley Bright

Wes Bright is originally from Freeport, ME and grew up racing Herreshoff 12 1/2s with his father out of the Buzzards Yacht Club on Cape Cod. He went on to add Opti and 420 racing and 3 H-Class junior national championships before transitioning to racing J/105s by age sixteen. Wes continued racing J/105s in most events in and around Buzzards Bay while coaching sailors in Optis, 420s, and J/105s at various clubs and sailing programs in the area. This fostered a strong competitive nature and a passion for making sailboats go fast. His need for speed led him briefly to windsurfing and then quickly transitioning into kiteboarding and kite racing.

In search of a wider sailing experience Wes travelled to St. Thomas in the USVI to work as a sailing coach and maintain the fleet for the St. Thomas Yacht Club. Working and sailing alongside many world class sailors provided many opportunities for him to improve his sailing skills as well as his rigging, sailmaking, and hull repair talents. Using this knowledge Wes hopes to refine his skills at Oakcliff with the goal of joining a team for The Ocean Race.

While not sailing Wes enjoys playing sports such as ice hockey, slopestyle skiing, and lacrosse. To relax he is a big fan of science fiction and fantasy books as well.
