Hoel Menard is a 15 year-old high performance sailor from San Francisco Bay, CA. He has sailed all his life and started racing at the age of 11. He started out in the Opti but has moved up to the Waszp and the Nacra 15.
While racing Optis, Hoel qualified for Team USA to race in the Topsport Vlandereen Optimist Championship, the Bermuda Nationals, and finished third at the Pacific Coast Championship. In the Waszp, Hoel has raced two Atlantic Coast Championships finishing in the top ten and scoring 9th at the Nationals. In the Nacra 15 he has competed in two National Championships and three Youth Worlds qualifying events. On top of racing high performance boats, Hoel has also competed in the Star Junior World Championship participated in the Oakcliff Offshore camp to broaden his horizons and discover the world of offshore racing. During the camp at Oakcliff, Hoel has raced the Marblehead to Halifax race on a Farr 40.
Hoel spends around 125 days of the year sailing and trains every weekend to achieve his long-term goal of medaling at the Olympic Games. Short -term Hoel is campaigning for the ISAF Youth Worlds and the Youth Olympic Games. When he is not sailing Hoel likes to skateboard and surf.
