Peter Wickwire wins his 2nd straight David Storrs Qualifier for the USMRC

Day 1 No racing due to severe weather

Day 2 Full 7 flights of races

Peter Wickwire won the David Storrs Qualifier for the U.S. Match Racing Championship hosted by Oakcliff Sailing in Oyster Bay, New York. The team from Novia Scotia, Canada went undefeated winning all seven races today, securing their spot for the Championships.

Wickwire’s picket fence was in deep danger all the way to the last race of the day as his team took a penalty turn around the pin end of the finish line as Bailey barreled downwind hot on their heels. In a massive puff of wind, Bailey’s team broached right before the finish, and Wickwire finished literally 8 inches ahead. The large team of race committee holding their breath.

All the competitors thanked the large group of umpires and volunteers in training, especially the team at Oakcliff who worked hard the long dark winter months to provide equipment and leadership for a nearly perfect regatta.
