Andrew Wills and Colin Bunnell will soon be experiencing and learning from the sailing and sailors in the Midwest. Ken Flaska, a lawyer from Detroit will be racing the Oakcliff 11.5 in both Mackinac’s as well as the Harbor Springs Regatta. The Mackinac’s are legendary for being … well inconsistent.
Some years it is a 90 degree sweltering 300 mile run. Other years it is a 24 hour sprint. Some years it takes 4 days and some years it snows. The Oakcliff team has prepared the 11.5 for any and all conditions with special care being given to the safety equipment as the organizers take safety very seriously. Andrew loaded the boat and 60 foot mast onto the truck that in itself is an educational experience and then there was dealing with the trucking permits.
This month will be great training, some good racing and the best thing is when the wave washes over … no salt! As a matter of fact the water is clean enough one can just pull a cup out of the lake and drink away. So many things to learn and experience.
