TEST

Applications for next summer’s training programs are open!

I’m pinching myself as we had a goal to open 2027 applications by Halloween, and we pulled it off.  We have a small budget but a tight team, and the miracles keep happening!

Refitting 49 feet of boat in 13 days with only 6 people, was another miracle. The Express 27 is beautiful and for sale. The J22 is already slated to go to a good home!

The Mighty Mary Premiere at Huntington’s Cinema Arts Centre. sold all 315 seats last night!  Showings continue through November 5.  On a local note, the theater is beautiful after their refit and they need to get Dylan back as Executive Director!

Next month we will be releasing our Winter Seminar Schedule and moving into our year-end fundraising but remember, you are encouraged to give early and often.

American Match Racers – Wow

Chis Poole Into the Storm @peter d taylor

The recent Dial Up, US Sailing’s Match Race Committee Newsletter is out.  It is edited by past Oakcliff Board Member who also knows a bit about Match Racing; Dave Perry. He has literally written books on it and his quotes are on our booms.

America has 10 skippers in the top 50 on the Open, Women and Youth rankings.  The crossover is super impressive.

  • Siena Nichols is #1 (US) and #7 (Worldwide) in the youth rankings and in the Open (men, women, all ages) she is #4 (US) and #23 (Worldwide).
  • Nicole Breault leads the US Women’s ranking as #1 (US) and #7 (Worldwide) In the Open Rankings she is #5 (US) and #26 (Worldwide).
  • Chris Poole continues to hold the top ranking in the #1 (US) and  #1 (Worldwide)!  He’s onsite at our Halloween Invitational coaching. Michelle Lahrkamp’s all women’s team.

Match Racing is the fastest way to get good and to get noticed on the world stage.  Oakcliff is one of the best places to train, race, learn and rise in the rankings.

Kick-start your career with the World Match Race Tour Academy, June 28 to July 12.  Chris Kennedy who was known as the Chris Poole whisperer when he raced with him,  will return as a coach.

OC68 Getting Ready for the Full Midwest Monty

Training Director Ethan Johnson has managed to make a non-Bermuda year look pretty darn exciting for Offshore Sailing at Oakcliff.

He’s looking to do the full Midwest Tour including, the Mackinac’s, UGotta Regatta and the Trans-Superior. Trust me – a summer in the Great Lakes is hard to beat.

In the salt water of the East Coast, we’ll also be sending the Farr 40s on the Annapolis to Newport, Block Island (qualifier for Bermuda 2027) and the popular Vineyard Training Weekends.

Oakcliff and US Sailing Athletes Reaching High

Oakcliff and US Sailing announced 3 more Olympic Pathway Collaboration Camps today.  The first one of 2027 will be January 8-10 in Miami. Applications are due before November 20.  June 5-15 will see an intensive Camp at Oakcliff that fits between the end of most schools and before junior programs begin. The second annual, San Pedro, CA camp will be in August just after the Olympic Classes Regatta.

These camps, using 470, 49erFx and Nacra 17s are designed to introduce athletes to what is possible in the Olympic realm.  All camps, but especially the longer camp at Oakcliff deliver a treasure-trove of information so athletes can build the skills needed to plan, fund and execute an Olympic campaign.

Activating the Annapolis Boat Shows

The Annapolis Sailboat Show was the culmination of thirteen days of massive refitting and that rolled into 4 long days of boat show refitting.

It was fun to have people stop by and chat as we worked.  Some, like the couple above, brought their sandwiches with them and had lunch as we refit. The community feel was wonderful, especially when the kids jumped on board.  Yes they still do loops: down the companion way, up the fore-hatch,  repeat.

We had an amazing array of partners in these refits and the playlist is worth watching for entertainment as well as education.   The J22 was sold but the beautiful Express 27, christened Bubbles Up with Regatta-Ritas and real life pirates is super cute, strong, fast, kitted out and for sale!

Next year we are looking at doing the  Class 40 USA118 if anyone would like to pre-purchase her, you can help influence the upgrades, take possession in Annapolis  in October, 2027 and sail her to the Caribbean circuit.
