Sight Seeing in Portsmouth

Sight Seeing in Portsmouth

August 12, Molly Robinson

The team took a day off to do various things. Charlie went to a press conference in Cowes where he did a great job representing the team. A handful of people went to see “Rise of Planet of the Apes”, which I heard did not deserve its four star rating. Kaity, Emerson, Welchy and I went sightseeing in Old Portsmouth.

It was a classic day in England: overcast, slightly rainy and cold. We knew we didn’t want to watch apes take over the world but other than that, we had no agenda. After wandering around Gunwarf Quay aimlessly we spotted Old Portsmouth, also called Spice Island, and started walking toward its old fort. You can see a picture of it in Amo’s most recent video

Old Portsmouth is called Spice Island because it is where all of the spices used to enter the city. The fort we were curious about was built to protect the highly profitable spice trade and sections of it still stand today. After checking out the square tower, the round tower and some other areas of the fort, we headed towards the local taverns and met some locals.  We started at the Spice Island Inn.
