14:30 – August 16

It’s 2:30 PM on Tuesday and we are just over 48 hours into the Rolex Fastnet Race. Last night brought the wind that the crew has been wanting since we all met at Kings Point three months ago. We saw 30 knot at times and the crew work was clean. The only issue we had was the mainsheet strop on the end of the boom and the situation was quickly fixed. We were all taken by surprise when we got the news over the VHF that Rambler 100 had flipped and some of their crew was in the water. After about an hour of sailing in their direction we got the call that everyone had been picked up and we were back on our way. The night continued to be bumpy and wet. Every big wave would send me flying out of my bunk and into the one in front of mine. Early this morning the wind got lighter and with some good sleep, wringing out the clothing, and some “fresh” food, things are looking good for the Vanquish.
